Ricardo Aguirre is a registered professional engineer, in the states of Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, Utah, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. He is certified in floodplain management and water harvesting, accredited as a land management professional, and is Envision Certified under the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. He is the founding Principal of HELM Consultants, where his responsibilities include project management, business development, and identifying sustainable and regenerative project opportunities for HELM Consultants.
Ricardo has a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his 20-year career in consulting he has played key roles on projects in the Midwest, on the West Coast, and in the Southwest providing both civil and environmental engineering services.
Ricardo’s roots are in agriculture, where he grew up with an understanding and appreciation of nature’s pattern and the value of natural design. Ricardo’s personal focus is to integrate natural processes into large scale public works engineering projects.
Ricardo’s primary professional focus is to implement functional design strategies to achieve multiple synergistic objectives. Ricardo has a profound interest in reversing desertification. Ricardo employs simplified one-dimensional and as well as sophisticated two-dimensional hydrologic and hydraulic models optimizing water harvesting potential to enhance soil water retention, improve air quality, implement passive irrigation for vegetation, and reduce the heat island effect. Ricardo’s project experience also includes infrastructure improvements of existing arid communities that have been adversely impacted by stormwater.
